In the vibrant heart of Hollywood, Courtland Studio LLC designed a private, Zen-inspired sanctuary that serves as an escape from the energy of Los Angeles. Located on Las Palmas, this multifamily residence demonstrates how thoughtful landscape architecture can transform high-density urban living into a restorative, immersive experience.

The Grand Arrival: Circular Drive & Architectural Palms

The transition from the city to the sanctuary begins at the entrance. With a circular drive framed by a rhythmic allee of specimen palms and dense, multi-layered planting.

• Plant Palette: By utilizing a tropical landscape palette, we created an immediate sense of arrival, utilizing the height of mature palms to provide scale and shade.
• Urban Curb Appeal: The lush perimeter serves as a natural sound barrier, shielding residents from the “daily rush” of the Hollywood district.

Resort-Style Amenities: Poolside & Fireside Lounges

The Zen philosophy extends through the property’s core, where functional relaxation zones meet architectural botanical design.

• The Poolside Oasis: We integrated modern hardscape elements with vibrant, lush planting to frame the pool area, creating a resort-style atmosphere.
• Intimate Fireside Lounges: Strategic “outdoor rooms” were carved out of the landscape, featuring custom fire pits and secluded seating areas for evening relaxation and social gatherings.

Biophilic Design for Modern Urban Living

At Zen Hollywood, every plant choice was intentional. Courtland Studio combined plant materials, selected for their unique shapes and textures, to create a tapestry of green that promotes calm and peace. This project of biophilic urban design demonstrates that such an approach is possible even in the center of Los Angeles.
