La Presa – Los Angeles
Hollywood Hills Estate: A Spanish-Inspired Cliffside Retreat
Project Location: Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, CA
Design Style: Spanish Colonial Revival & Modern Mediterranean
Set high above the iconic Los Angeles skyline, this Hollywood Hills estate balances the bold, structured lines of Spanish-inspired architecture with a soft, ethereal landscape. Courtland Studio LLC collaborated closely with the homeowners over a multi-year journey to refine every detail, resulting in a “cliffside oasis” that prioritizes sunlight, privacy, and high-end entertaining.
The Entry: Wrought Iron & Natural Stone
The experience begins at the property’s entryway, where custom wrought-iron entry gates provide security and artistic character.
- Hardscape Design: A path of natural stone steppers creates an organic transition from the formal entry to the private grounds.
- Material Palette: We selected stones that complement the warm tones of the Spanish stucco, ensuring the hardscape feels original to the 1920s-inspired architecture.
Botanical Artistry: Silver Olive Groves & Lush Textures
To contrast the home’s structure, our landscape designers curated a palette of silver and green.
- Specimen Trees: Mature, silver-toned olive trees (Olea europaea) anchor the garden, providing a Mediterranean soul and drought-tolerant resilience.
- Softscaping: Beds of lush, flowing grasses and vibrant flora add movement and soft textures, blurring the lines between the built environment and the cliffside’s natural edge.
The Poolside: Panoramic Views & Privacy
The ultimate destination of the estate is the poolside retreat.
- The View: Strategically placed plantings frame “front-row” views of the Los Angeles city lights, while maintaining a sense of privacy.
- The Flow: Designed for hosting guests, the transition from the indoor living areas to the outdoors is seamless, utilizing the natural slope of the Hollywood Hills to create distinct “outdoor spices.”
